Flat Ground That Holds Water Instead of Shedding It

Stanley lies in the North Fork Eau Claire River watershed, within the Forest Transition ecological landscape whose central portion is a glacial till plain, moraines of the Wisconsin glaciation to the east and west. Till is the problem word: it packs dense and sheds water slowly, the opposite of valley sand.
